Mt. Rigi

In search of a good Christmas card backdrop, we decided to hit the mountains again. This time we chose Mt. Rigi, the most popular mountain for a day trip in Switzerland. Ben and I had visited Mt. Rigi three years ago when I joined him during one of his business trips, and we remembered the spectacular views. This time we drove to the town of Goldau before boarding a cogwheel train up to the summit of Mt. Rigi. For some reason we knew enough to dress the kids in their snow gear, but as families boarded the train with skis and sleds, Ben and I knew the two of us were completely underdressed. It was freezing cold and windy at the top, but we managed to hike up a short incline to the summit (kids and inappropriately large LL Bean bag in tow). The clouds cleared just long enough for a few quick pics and we raced down to the restaurant for cider and hot chocolate. Mt. Rigi is another place we want to return to, whether it be for skiing or sledding later this winter, or for the yodeling concerts and cheese making that take place in the summer!
