Herbstmesse
After two weeks of carnival fun, the Herbstmesse is rolling out of town. The boys couldn't get enough of the rides, and we couldn't get enough of the Kartoffelpuffers (fried potato pancakes with applesauce)! Our favorites from last year were back--the pumpkin ride, motorcycle carousel and the giant ferris wheel in Munsterplatz. But we discovered some new favorites as well...the Robi-Spielplatz (where you could make your own raw-wood sword and run around swinging it at other kids), the Mause-Spektakel (a house that you walk through and watch live mice run around in cages--gross!), and my favorite--the Weinmesse (a week-long wine expo).
The Herbstmesse always ends on St. Martin's Day, a day that many European children celebrate by parading the streets with lanterns and singing St. Martin songs.
Happy St. Martin's Day from Eli...
