Osterfest & First Guests
We had a very special Easter weekend this year, as we had the opportunity to host our first visitors--my Mom, Dad, Mark and his girlfriend, Brittany. The weather cooperated perfectly and allowed us to introduce them to Basel at our favorite time of year.
The weekend itinerary (emailed to them months in advance by their Type “A” tour guide) was busy, but pretty relaxing. We enjoyed cocktails overlooking the Rhine, late breakfasts, leisurely walks downtown with stops at outdoor cafes, late dinners…all of the things we love about Basel and wish we could do more often!
Eli and Ethan really loved having relatives in town. They were so proud to give the tour of the apartment--the highlights being their room, the playroom, the elevator buttons and the scary basement laundry room. They also loved taking Grammy and Poppy down the street to Shutzenmatt Park all by themselves to ride the scooters that they got from the Easter Bunny.
The boys were especially excited when Grammy traded in her nice hotel room for a twin bed in our playroom and “slept over” for a few extra nights. She got to experience a couple of routine days with school, grocery store, playdates and mealtime battles. We brought the boys to an event at the park and held our breath as they rode bizarre rides run by (and perhaps made by?) kids. And we visited the Museum of Transport in Luzern again and enjoyed ice cream cones overlooking the lake. The boys really appreciated all of the quality time they had together…though Grammy is probably still recovering!
It was so nice to have the family here and for them see everything we have been telling them about. We were sad to see them go and hope they don't wait too long before coming back again!
