Weekend of Boy

Last week’s sunny weather gave us a big case of Spring Fever. Happily leaving the blue and orange jackets behind, we checked out Grun 80 on Saturday, one of Basel’s largest outdoor recreation areas. There was a great pond where men were racing toy speed boats, a mini golf course, a playground, bike paths, and even a giant dinosaur lurking in the open fields. The boys ran into their friend, Max, and they all had a great time rolling down hills, wrestling, fighting over who got to throw the soccer ball off the top of the slide, and generally just being boys.

And, catering to those little (and big) boy spirits even more, we ventured to Luzern on Sunday to the Verkehrshaus Museum of Transport and Communication, the largest museum in Switzerland devoted to transportation. Despite being very non-stroller-friendly, the museum was pretty impressive. Eli’s favorite part was the hour-long journey to outer space we took inside the planetarium. He can now tell you all about the storms on “Cupiter” and how dangerous the sun is. Ben’s and my favorite part was the hour-long naps we took during the show! To our credit, the boys wouldn’t share the little translation gadgets, so we couldn’t understand anything the narrator was saying. But it’s a good thing that Ben was able to squeeze in a nap, because he was about to ring in Basel’s Fasnacht at 4am the next morning…
